TOP 10 Ways to Leverage Video Marketing

BHI Insight: Video is the next great open frontier for marketing efforts, now that most Americans (200M) have smartphones and can play videos on them.  The potential for new revenues, increased growth and new engagement are just the beginnings!  

By Steve  Cartwright – Can you imagine writing a blog that contained over 1.8 million words, it would be pretty amazing to see although I don’t know if I’d like to read it. However according to Dr James McQuivey of Forrester Research, the value of a one-minute video is over 1.8 million words, which I find pretty amazing and it goes to show you the importance video has in your marketing mix. If you’re wondering how you can use video for marketing your business, here are a few ideas.

1. Create Educational Videos with 80/20

Outside of demonstration type videos you can also create really good educational videos about any topic. Just pick a topic your niche is interested in and focus on one specific area to cover for the video. Always remember the 80/20 rule, educate 80% of the time, and promote yourself just 20% of the time. Use the beginning and end go the video with logo and branding through-out to assist you.  By explaining a topic carefully and thoroughly with video, your audience will come away with fewer questions and a lot more knowledge and you’ll be perceived as an expert, thought-leader and authority figure (see #10).

2. Tell Your Story in Video

You could also use video to create a more engaging “About Us Page” for your blog or website. Let the people know who you are, what your values are and how your business fits into your overall value proposition.  Be personable and friendly, professional and clear… not car-saleman style!

3. Utilize Videos to Improve Conversion Rates

Videos on sales pages have been shown to have a high level of conversion, with some estimates putting the conversation rate at 46 percent above typical text-based sales pages. However saying that, when it comes to video sales pages it really does come down to quality, so invest that little bit extra and your sales page will convert that much better.

4. Develop Demonstration Videos for Tough Concepts

If you have a concept that is hard to understand or explain in words, such as installing a WordPress Plugin and setting it up correctly, then a video is the perfect medium to use to demonstrate your concept. Be sure not to skip steps, and explain concepts as you move along in your video. Have you seen explainer videos before, with the hand drawing out the examples? Well, it’s a proven fact that the mind remembers better when you engage as many of the senses as you can. By providing voice and a clear picture of what is being said, you will improve information retention.

5. Capture the Importance of Your Products

It’s often hard to show how big or how important your product or service is and what problems it solves, with only text and images. A video is a great way to break down barriers and to show your potential audience everything you can about your products and services and how it will solve their problems.

6. Collect Testimonial Videos

One of the best ways to use testimonials in your business is with video, you can do this by hosting a contest, inviting people to enter and asking them to tell what they love most, about your products and services. Further, have them invite others to “like” and “share” and vote on their favourite video. Any way you can get them to speak authentically about your service, product or business… do it!

7. Create Videos of Your Google Videos

Google enables you to create Roundtables and Hangouts and record them. This is a great way to kill two birds with one stone, on the one hand you get to host a live event, and on the other repurpose the video for use later on your website or membership area.

8. Create a Vlog or Video Series

Video doesn’t have to be professionally shot or super expensive to get views and converts, in fact you can use video much like you do with a blog.  It pays to beware that you need to try to give a professional view of ‘yourself’ and your business, based on who your audience is and what they expect of you.  Buy a decent microphone and please use a simple tripod, shot it with your smartphone and be amazed by these pro results!  FYI, 1-3 minutes are ideal!  Edit with iMovie and be sure to know how to upload to Youtube, add tags and customize your cover image.

9. Transform Your PowerPoints into Video

You can also add voice and music and even your picture within a video of your PowerPoint slides to make them much more interesting. It’s an easy way to break into the video marketing world and it’s also extremely effective. Using video to create more sales, generate more interest and even perhaps to “go viral” can be fun and profitable, get started now, if you want to see your sales grow but remember, just like with blog posts no one wants to be sold to all of the time.  Check out if you are not using them already.
